Dr. Lan Vu is a pediatric surgeon at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco. Born in Vietnam, she immigrated to the United States in 1981. During her time as a medical student at UCSF, she spent a year as a research assistant with Dr. Hanmin Lee in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at UCSF and worked as a domestic violence counselor in the Asian Women's Shelter in San Francisco.
Dr. Vu finished her general surgery residency at UCSF in 2010. During her residency, she completed a two-year pediatric surgery research fellowship and received a master's degree in Clinical Research at UCSF. She returned to UCSF after completing her pediatric surgery training at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Vu is the director of Long-term Infant to adult Follow-up and Evaluation (LIFE) program, a multidisciplinary team that provides care to patients with complex surgical congenital anomalies. In addition, she leads the surgical quality improvement efforts at the children's hospital as the surgeon champion of NSQIP Pediatric and chair of the Perioperative Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee.
